" My go-to bit for a 2- or 3-year-old coming out of a snaffle is the short shank three-piece twist with a dog bone. The slight gag allows it to be comfortable yet effective with a twisted wire mouthpiece. The dog bone included in the mouthpiece feels great on a variety of different horses, from round to stiff. It is also a great competition bit for a sensitive horse that has a jockey with hands who need a slight delay in reaction to the horse’s mouth.”
